A total ban on the consumption and trading of wild animals is being pushed throughout China in response to the coronavirus epidemic. The epidemic is suspected to have started and spread from a wildlife market in Wuhan, China.
The top legislature in china has fast-tracked the decision to ban the trade and consumption of wild animals immediately to help stop coronavirus outbreak and prevent future outbreaks.
According to the Xinhua News Agency the announcement to make ban permanent came on Monday, following the initial temporary suspension that occurred in January.
Zhang Tiewei, a spokesman for the top legislature’s Legislative Affairs Commission“ said, There has been a growing concern among people over the consumption of wild animals and the hidden dangers it brings to public health security since the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.”
The decision was made by the National People’s Congress and stipulates that the illegal consumption, trade, hunting, trading or transporting wild animals for the purpose of consumption will be “severely punished”.
Now if only they would also ban the incredibly cruel bear bile trade, instead of promoting it as a as coronavirus treatment…
