On 25th November 2022, a private members bill will be debated in the UK Parliament on banning trophy hunting imports. After several delays and broken promises from the government, it seems that this debate will go ahead. However, the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill is now coming as a private member’s bill as opposed to a government bill, which, despite the fact the conservative government has indicated that it will support it (and the opposition will do too), it makes it easier for opponents to get it talked out (and the trophy hunting industry will be going all-out to wreck it). In November, the bill, that intends to ban the imports of hunting trophies from endangered and threatened species, will have its second reading.

The Campaign to ban Trophy Hunting (CBTH) is calling for everyone who is a British citizen to write to their MPs asking them to attend the debate and vote for the bill to progress.  The campaign will be doing a national roadshow starting in October which consists of taking their ad van around the country to raise awareness and get people mobilised

British trophy hunters are killing so many animals that they are winning industry prizes, including an award given to those who shoot over 100 different species. British-owned firms are profiting from this immoral industry by selling ‘holidays’ where people can shoot lions, elephants, rhinos, and cheetahs for pleasure. Trophy hunters are shooting animals that are on the brink of extinction. There are just 6,674 cheetahs and 3,142 black rhinos left in the wild; the IUCN Red List has recently declared that African Elephants are Endangered. Yet British hunters are shooting them and bringing home their body parts to display proudly in their homes.

The Times and other newspapers have reported how campaigns to block a British ban are being financed by the American gun lobby and Russian oligarchs linked to Vladimir Putin. As Channel 4 News reported, they have auctioned polar bear and leopard hunts to raise funds for this campaign of deception to mislead British MPs and thwart the will of the British people.

If you are a UK citizen, you can write to your MP about this via the CBTH website
