If you are a vegan who often gets embroiled in debates on the health benefits of the vegan diet, you may want to watch a YouTube video produced by Lifting Vegan Logic based on a selection of clips of the video from Dr Matthew Nagra whereby he debates Dr Anthony Chaffee on whether “Plants Are Trying To Kill You”. Dr Chaffy is a proponent of the carnivore diet lifestyle and Dr Nagra is a proponent of being vegan or having a plant-based diet.

Dr Matthew Nagra is a naturopathic doctor based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, who was drawn to his profession through personal health challenges. Growing up in Qualicum Beach, he battled asthma, allergies, and weight management, but it was his transition to a plant-based diet that catalysed a significant health improvement and forged his career path. A University of Victoria graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology, Dr. Nagra completed his naturopathic medical studies at the Boucher Institute.

Dr Anthony Chaffee is an American medical doctor and neurosurgical resident with over 20 years of research in optimal human nutrition. He is known for advocating a meat-based diet for health benefits and human performance. He is also a former rugby player.

This edited version of this very detailed debate highlights the parts of this debate when Dr Nagra debunks all his opponent’s claims and sets the record straight using the most up-to-date data. With fulminating statements delivered in a very articulate way, Dr Nagra appears to win this debate. Statements such as, “I just want to make clear, for all-cause mortality we agree there was benefit” or “If we can get all of our nutrition with a plant-based diet plus appropriate supplementation and it leads to better health outcomes, lower rates of cancer incidents based on this meta-analysis from 2017, lower risk of ischemic heart disease based on this meta-analysis from earlier this year, vegans compared to non-vegetarians, what’s the problem?”

The conversation is quite technical, but you can watch the full debate here, and the edited version highlighting Dr Naga scoring dialectical points here:
