Cherry was premature, fragile, and fighting for a life that had barely started. Weighing just 2kg, she had fallen behind. Her chances of survival were slim, but the Owl and Pussycat Sanctuary found her.
Antibiotics, medication for diarrhoea, electrolytes to keep her stable, vitamin and mineral supplements, treatment for lice – a substantial list to give her a shot at surviving the odds. Alongside this, she needed around-the-clock care, every single hour, just to monitor her status. She was seemingly aware of her vulnerability, as she expressed a neediness.
Where She Is Now
Today, you wouldn’t know that she fell behind. Cherry is unrecognisable in the best possible way.
She is confident. She is cheeky and hilarious. Where her best friend Nutmeg is, that’s where she’ll likely be. Her neediness remains; if she’s momentarily unglued from Nutmeg, she’s demanding attention from her human rescuers. If Cherry wants something, she will tell you. This girl is undeniably opinionated and vocal.
This is a goat who was once too small, too weak, and too fragile for anyone to be certain she had a future. She now has an opinion on everything and will make sure you know it.
What She Proves
Cherry proves something that is often neglected: even the smallest, most fragile lives are still worth fighting for. That tiny baby clinging to life was worth staying up all night for.
She’s had the chance to grow into a happy being who expresses herself fully. The world is a safe place for her now, and like other animals, she deserves it.
