Humane Alternatives to Glue Traps
Glue traps are cruel and unnecessary. Mice are simply seeking warmth and survival, especially during colder months. There are far more humane and effective alternatives:- Seal entry points. Close small gaps and cracks that mice use to enter your home.
- Eliminate attractants. Clean up spills, crumbs, and food debris, and store pet food in sealed containers.
- Use natural deterrents. Peppermint oil, bay leaves, and cloves are widely reported to repel mice.
- Choose humane traps. Live-catch traps let you safely relocate mice away from your home without harm.
Please urge John Venhuizen, President and CEO of Ace Hardware Corporation, to end the sale of all glue traps, both online and in stores, by signing the letter below.

Glue traps cause mice and other small animals tremendous suffering. Once caught, they struggle desperately against the adhesive, tearing at their skin and fur to escape. Trapped animals endure fear, pain, and exhaustion, unable to eat or drink for days before finally dying or being discarded while still alive. No animal deserves to suffer this way.
Humane alternatives exist and are readily available. I urge Ace Hardware to stop selling glue traps and instead promote live-catch traps that allow mice to be safely and humanely relocated. This change would reflect the compassion and responsibility customers increasingly expect from the businesses they support.
