On 4th March 2026, Barn Sanctuary in Chelsea, Michigan, US, celebrated the 7th birthday of one of its most beloved residents, Lola the goat, whose story of resilience has inspired followers around the world.
Lola arrived at Barn Sanctuary when she was just 13 days old, after being surrendered due to severe frostbite that affected her back legs and hooves. The sanctuary’s care team worked tirelessly to nurse her back to health, frequently visiting the vet as the skin on her legs began to peel away. Unfortunately, the frostbite led to a serious infection, and both of her back legs had to be amputated to prevent it from spreading.
Following her surgery, Lola embarked on a long recovery journey that involved months of physical therapy and careful experimentation with prosthetics until she learned how to walk again. Despite the early challenges, she quickly adapted, thriving with the help and dedication of her care team.
Barn Sanctuary shared a touching post on Instagram marking her special day, saying, “Happy 7th Birthday to the one and only Princess Lola! Seven years ago, this tiny girl arrived at Barn with severe frostbite, facing a battle most couldn’t imagine. She lost both of her back legs, endured months of physical therapy, and learned to walk on prosthetics — all before most of us have faced a real challenge in life. And now? She’s THRIVING and turning SEVEN! Lola hasn’t just survived — she’s flourished into the most poised, playful, and demanding little diva this sanctuary has ever seen. From that courageous little frostbitten baby to the reigning princess of Barn — Lola has stolen every heart that has walked through these gates, and she remind us every single day why we do what we do.”
Known affectionately as “Princess Lola,” she is described as playful, affectionate, and always eager for human attention. Anyone moved by Lola’s story can help support her through Barn Sanctuary’s sponsorship programme, which funds daily care, medical checkups, and emergency treatments.
